The survey at the school where we planned to drill our first borehole and build our first water tower and water points had poor results. We can only pump 20 cubic meters of water at that location. That’s far from enough to provide 2,500 people with drinkable water.
In September, we will learn the possibilities and costs of bringing water down from one, or if needed, several places at the dam. We also look at where to put the main pipes to several water points in the community. These main pipes will be the precursor to the water pipes that will supply people’s homes in the future.
Thanks to the VGP Foundation, we can carry out our educational agriculture project. In September, we will begin constructing the first unit. We expect to have all the agricultural units ready by the end of November. This will allow us to have seedlings of crops suitable for the dry season in time. This will help alleviate food insecurity.
Also positive news in August. The women’s groups received a big tent and 100 chairs from a politician. Along with a generous cash donation.
We will use the tent and chairs for the many educational meetings we will organise. We will also lend the tent for funerals, weddings, etc. This will give the women’s groups money for future activities. E.g., buying cooking utensils to learn better cooking (through the seedlings in the greenhouses we will introduce new vegetables), kitchen hygiene, food conservation, etc.
This month, we also took the first steps to start new women’s groups. The demand is high, but we have a small start-up budget.
